The Apollo Space Program and the Lunar Landing

Forty three years ago Americans landed and walked on the moon.  Today, American astronauts cannot reach space unless they participate in another country's space program.

That is regression, not progression.

Water and the Sea

I am fortunate to live in the peninsular country of South Korea, because the ocean can be accessed easily.  I am fortunate to live in the southern region of the country that isn't overly crowded that has some wonderful areas to photograph water and the sea.

I have an ongoing project called, Water and the Sea.  Within this project are submissions that support this theme and vision.  I have updated Water and the Sea with Ardea, Grus, Egretta, Et Alia.  AGE shows the various species of migratory waterfowl and shorebirds that use the waterways, bays, reservoirs, and seas during their journey.  The different seasons of the year brings different species of birds.

This specific submission of AGE contains many images of birds in flight.  The flapping and bounding of these majestic and beautiful creatures near the surface of the water at a low aperture setting combined with a slow shutter speed created interesting shapes and designs.  Well, interesting to me anyway.

I compose my photographs knowing the large prints are best to see the details of what I think is important to perceive.  Flight Path above and Heron Flying Near Shore below are examples of the importance of printing large.  The subtle design and important details are missed with smaller sized prints.  I imagine the details are almost completely lost on the small screen of a mobile device.

Ricardo Segovia - Photographer from Mexico

I have known Ricardo for a few years, and he has some common traits that many other fine art photographers possess:  kindness to others, gentlemanly, high values and expectations, and genuine artist vision and talent.  His attention to detail is keen, and his desire to create works of excellence is palpable.

What better way to illustrate my assertions than to see some of Ricardo's artwork.  This is a link to that part of his website that features his Autumn Leaves project:  Autumn Leaves by Ricardo Segovia.

I look forward to seeing his artistic creativity in the future.

The Superstition

It is Friday, the 13th of July in the beautiful land of South Korea.  I think I threw that superstition nonsense out of the figurative window at the same time I learned Santa Claus was a figment of the imagination.  Too bad the god fairy tale took longer to disprove.

The nonsense that humanity passes off as truths or facts is disturbing.

I would think an outhouse, even a figurative or symbolic rendition, would be an appropriate venue to dump the nonsense that is pushed upon humanity. Happy dumping, and enjoy the freedom of living life!

Supporting A Community

I believe it is important for me to support the art community.  I have received so much enjoyment from the arts, hence my desire to do something.  I don't like the term "giving back" as I prefer to use the more appropriate term "supporting a community."  The idea that I would want to give something back suggests that I didn't like that something in the first place, and I want to trade it in the day after Christmas.  No, thanks.  I want to build and support instead.

For example, volunteering to judge the monthly photo contest for Gwangju News is one of my more public endeavors to support photographers in Jeollanam-do and in Korea.  This is a link to the July 2012 photo contest:  Gwangju News Photo Contest.

I'm just doing my part, that's all.
